Larry Bauer - Class Of 1959 VIEW PROFILE

Larry Bauer

My brother Larry passed away July 28, 2018 in Nantes, France, which was his home. After a short teaching career, Larry went to work for IBM in Puerto Rico. Over his career, he worked for the company in Germany, Venezuela, Indiana, and Connecticut.

His first marriage produced two sons. Following a divorce, Larry married a young French woman and settled with her in France. The new marriage produced two children. After living in Paris and retiring, Larry moved to the marsh area of Western France and turned his home into a popular bed and breakfast, where he did the cooking, as well as all the remodeling and repairs. Larry spoke fluent German, French, and Spanish besides his native language. He traveled extensively, making friends throughout the world. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Three years ago he contracted colon cancer which spread first to the liver and then to the bones. He went through two and a half years of chemotherapy and radiation and fought valiantly to hang onto the life he loved. The last months were full of great pain. I was fortunate enough to spend a lovely week with my brother in Vermont in the spring of 2017 where we shared laughs, memories, and a wonderful time. He will be deeply missed.

Larry is survived by his wife Silvie, daughter, Lauren, sons Leo, Kenneth, and Martin; and his brother Tom Bauer '56.
