A Granville Ackerman - Class Of 1950

Alan Granville 'Gran' Ackerman of Norwalk, Connecticut, died at Fairfield County Hospice House at the age of 86.

Gran was an architectural designer, graduating from the University School of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During his prolific career of 58 years, he worked at Beck and Beck in New York City, and later had his own firm, Facility Design Consultants. His work included projects for leading hotels and restaurants, corporate offices, the White House, the 1958 Brussels World's Fair and the 7Up and Lowenbrau exhibits at the 1964 World's Fair in New York.

He lived in Silvermine, Norwalk, Connecticut since 1957, where he and his wife, Martha, raised their two sons. He was president of the Silvermine Community Association Board, co-designing its boundaries and signage. He was a founding member of the Rowayton Yacht Club at Hickory Bluff and a member of its Board.

Gran will be remembered for his love of and talent for architectural design, drawing and art, as well as his love for his family and his gift of conversations and curiosity about others' interess. Gran is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha, his sons Jeffrey and David, two grandchildren and a great-grandson, and sister, Nancy Munz and family.
