James T 'Jim' Whiting

It is with great sadness that the family of James T Whiting announces his passing on January 13, 2022, at the age of 83 years.

Jim was a 36-year resident of Bullhead City, Arizona and grew up in South Pasadena where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Susan Merrill Whiting '59. He worked at Meadow Gold Dairies in Pasadena while attending Woodbury College in Los Angeles, graduating with a degree in accounting. He worked for a couple of CPA firms before becoming the comptroller for Futurecraft Corporation, City of Industry. Later, he became the general manager of Murcole Disposal, Inc in Compton before semi-retiring in 1985. He enjoyed the trash business and could often be heard saying, "Trash is the only business that is always picking up and never suffers a recession."

In 1986, he and his wife relocated to Bullhead City to pursue business opportunities. He partnered with Glen Medlin, and later with his son-in-law, John Mieding, and friend, Brad Brown, in Tri-State Disposal, Inc. The partners later sold the business to Allied Waste; he retired in 1999.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed golfing, playing chess, softball, card games, and traveling abroad with his close friends and family. He also appreciated spending time with his grandchildren, boating, and teaching them a good work ethic. He cared about children in the community and championed the building of the Rotary Skate Park, along with many generous donors, at Rotary Park, Bullhead City. In addition, he was a longtime Rotarian proudly donating his time to serve his community.

Jim leaves behind of wife of 63 years, Susan; children, Steve, Robynne, Jeff, and Ron; brother, Rick Whiting '57; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
