
Horton Porter "Smitty" Smith, 77, died January 6, 2005. Born in Pasadena, California, he had been a Hampton resident for 30 years. Having graduated from the University of Southern California, he went on to serve as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1979 after 32 years of service. He then joined Glen-Sadler Company as an engineer, retiring in 1994.
LTC Smith is survived by his wife, Cynthia Scott Smith; daughter, Kingsley S. Conway and Whitney S. Caldwell; sons, Scott Peters, Christopher Smith, and Patrick Smith; brother Edgar Wilson Smith (SPHS '42); 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
