Jack Allen

January 28, 1928 - November 11, 2024

Jack passed away in Conroe, Texas, at the age of 96. Born in Huntington Park, Jack was the beloved son of Ruth Allen and Joseph Pyles. He was raised in Pasadena by his mother, stepfather, and grandmother Hulda Lindstrom Allen, who nurtured him with love and encouragement.

Jack's life was a vibrant tapestry of resilience and creativity. As a young man, he played quarterback for Pasadena Junior College's football team at the Rose Bowl Stadium, earning the nickname 'Half-Pint Jackie Allen' for his tenacity. His charm and humor later earned him affectionate monikers like 'Happy Jack' and 'Oh, Jack!' During World War II, Jack served proudly as a Navy Seabee in the South Pacific. Initially trained as a stevedore, he discovered a passion for photography during his service - a craft that became central to his life. After his honorable discharge, he refined his artistic talents at Woodbury Business College and the ArtCenter School of Design in Pasadena. Jack's career in advertising showcased his ingenuity and vision. As Executive Art Director for Young & Rubicam in New York and San Francisco, he shaped memorable campaigns for brands such as Jell-O and Levi's. Later chapters of his career included running a photography studio in San Francisco and serving as Creative Director for Dawson, Turner & Jenkins in Portland.

Jack shared his life with several loves. He married Nancy Green and welcomed their son David. With Helen Coleman, he had two children, Todd and Tamara. In Maui, he met Marjorie Porter Dimeo - his soulmate of 46 years until her passing in 2017. In retirement, Jack devoted himself to painting Americana-style works featured on jigsaw puzzles - each piece a tribute to Marge with her name lovingly hidden within.

He is survived by his children:  David (Rebecca) Colley; Todd (Patricia) Allen; Tamara Allen; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and Marge's family.

In accordance with his wishes, Jack will be laid to rest at sea alongside his Navy comrades and beloved Marge. His legacy of joy, artistry, and humor will continue to inspire all who knew him.
