Dean Hargrove
January 28, 1948 - January 14, 2025
Dean, age 76, passed away unexpectedly in Berkeley, California. He was the fourth of five children to his parents Dr Kenneth Hargrove and Jean Hargrove. As a child, Dean was very inquisitive and interested in how things worked. He could fix just about anything. He spent most of his life in Berkeley, where he attended Berkeley schools. He attended South Pasadena High School for his senior year.
In 1970, Dean joined the Navy where he put his skills to work maintaining the electronic navigation systems aboard the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier. He went on to study at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona where he majored in electrical engineering. After college he worked for various private businesses as a computer and electronics technician.
Dean's passions in life were physics, science, and quantum theories. He also enjoyed bicycling, swimming, snow skiing, and taking walks in Berkeley parks. He fit the description of an "absent-minded professor."
Dean was predeceased by his parents and his brother Dr Gary K Hargrove. He is survived by his three sisters: Liz Hargrove, Marilyn Berkey, and Bobbie Hargrove. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
We will miss you, Dean. Rest in peace.

I did not know Dean very well in our Senior year but Carol and I had the pleasure of sharing a table with him at our 45th class reunion. During that festive evening Dean shared with me about his efforts in caring for his aging parents. Being involved in caregiving and advocacy for my own parents at that time I could relate to the experiences Dean was sharing with me that night. Upon reading the tribute to Dean here in this forum it became clear that he and I shared other life experiences, i.e., I too joined the Navy in 1970, cycling and skiing were also a shared passion. I wish Dean and I could have had the chance to share those experiences. Yet another example of how the 'coulda, woulda, shouldas' is an all too familiar negative syndrome in one's Golden Years.
My heartfelt condolences to all of Dean's family and friends. God Bless you with peace and comfort, knowing Dean is in Heavenly peace, care and surrounded wth Infinite love.
