Marie L. Axtman - Class Of 1911

Marie Axtman

May 7, 1893 - May 11, 1984

Marie L Axtman, a South Pasadena resident for more than 80 years, passed away May 11, after a brief illness. Born in 1893, she moved here with her family in 1903 and, except for short periods of time, never left.

Her father, William F Axtman, was a publisher and editor and for some years owned the South Pasadenan, a predecessor of the South Pasadena Review.

A graduate of Los Angeles Normal School, now LA City College, her teaching career spanned half a century, first at Lincoln Park School (now Arroyo Vista) and later at Marengo School.

She leaves a sister, Eugenie Axtman Sterling '17, a niece, Louise van Ingen, and a nephew, Grice Axtman '35.
