Charles Gray Baskerville - Class Of 1953

Charles Gray Baskerville

Charles Gray Baskerville, 66, whose love of hot rods led to a colorful career that culminated as a senior editor of Hot Rod magazine, died February 1, 2002 in Los Angeles. He had prostate cancer.

Mr. Baskerville, who refused to sit behind a desk and read someone else's copy, opted instead to crisscross the continent, attending hot rod shows, drag races, and speedtrials. By his own account, he put about 250,000 miles on his roadster visiting the car shops and car enthusiasts featured in his articles. Founded in 1948, Hot Rod is one of the oldest journals covering car culture, and Mr. Baskerville, a Los Angeles native and one of its signature writers, loved cars all his life and grew up during the birth of the hot rod movement in the 1940s and early 1950s.
