Marilyn Jane Bennett (Clark)

Marilyn J. Clark passed away January 18, 2006 at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier. Marilyn was born June 29, 1921. Her childhood was spent in Iowa, and her parents divorced in the early years of the Depression. She moved to California in about 1932, residing in Covina then South Pasadena. Her mother, Florence Bennett, was the Wedding Director at Oneonta Congregational Church.

She graduated from South Pasadena High School, and attended Broad Oaks College and graduated from Pasadena City College. She married Norman B. Clark, Jr. on April 15, 1944, during World War II, and had two sons, Gary and David. She and the family lived successively in South Pasadena, Coalinga and Bakersfield before moving to Whittier in 1962. While living in Bakersfield, she completed her college education, earning a B.A. in Education from Fresno State College. She was a Grey Lady Volunteer in Bakersfield, and at Presbyterian Hospital in Whittier, where she had over 1,000 hours of volunteer service. She had an active helpful interest in those around her. She volunteered in other organizations.

Her husband Norman B. Clark, Jr preceded her in death. She leaves two sons, Gary and David, their wives, two granddaughters, Larkin and Margaret, and a sister, Joyce Bennett (SPHS '39) of Coronado.
