Nellie Wong - Class Of 1916

Nellie Wong

Chinese Girl Works Way Through College

Nellie Choy Wong, the Chinese girl who graduated from the South Pasadena High School in June with the 1916 class, is now a student a LaSell Seminary, Auburndale, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. It is her intention to complete the course at LaSell and then go to her own land where she will teach.

With an ambition to win an education, she is earning her college course by taking subscriptions for a magazine. Before leaving here she had secured 100 subscriptions, entitling her to a one year scholarship, and before the expiration of that time she expects to have a sufficient number to entitle her to the four-year course.

While in South Pasadena High School, Miss Wong was an exceptionally bright student. She worked hard with her studies and she made a host of friends among the faculty and students, who wish for her every success. Mrs Nellie E Keith, the city librarian, has received a letter from Miss Wong written the day after she reached Auburndale.
