John Chase Greenwood

John Chase Greenwood died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at his home in the country near Winters.

Mr. Greenwood was born to John Loveridge Greenwood and Alice Chase on April 27, 1918. Brought up in South Pasadena, he attended public schools there and received his B.A. degree from Stanford University in 1939. After a brief business career, cut short by the war, Mr. Greenwood volunteered for the army, serving in the 89th Mortar Battalion on the Western Front until 1945. He ran a department store business in Winters for 35 years, from 1951 to his retirement in 1985. He participated on the local school board, a charter membership and President of the Rotary Club, and once, a "Citizen of the Year" designation.

Mr. Greenwood is survived by his wife, Barbara De Nure Greenwood; three daughters, Danielle Greenwood, Kim Chevalier and Niki Greenwood of Davis, Woodland and Winters; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Betty Ann Inman of Walnut Creek.
