Bernice 'Bee' Huntoon (Scott)

Bernice "Bee" Huntoon Scott was born in Chicago on April 10, 1919 and passed away peacefully in Sacramento on April 14, 2005 at 86 years.  She was the widow of James M. Scott.  She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Bruce Miner; granddaughters Tracy and Leslie Khuen, great-granddaughters Kayla and Jessica Bettencourt.  Bee enjoyed the mountains, gardening, golf, bridge, and her many friendships.  At Bee's request, no funeral services were held.

The following letter is from Bee's daughter, Barbara Miner, dated April 2005:

Dear Friends of Bee Scott,

It is with great sadness that I write this last letter to update you on my mother.  She passed away peacefully this week, on April 14, 2005 at 86 years of age.

The doctor felt mother had a series of small strokes, and though she was awake much of the day, would speak a few words and had movement, she refused to eat or drink.  She would respond to other things, but absolutely would not open her mouth for nourishment no matter who was trying to feed her.  As her family we all agreed she made it clear that this was her decision.  We were there daily to visit and support her.  The nursing staff and many of the residents at Sherwood Health Care had become her friends and she had many visitors every day coming by to tell her "hi" or to encourage her to take some sips of juice or make sure she continued to be comfortable.  Her directive was no feeding tube or resuscitation; therefore she was having comfort care only.  Mother rested peacefully, breathing well and unaided.  She made no grimaces or indications at any time of pain.  This was merciful as she quietly shut down and went to eternal sleep.

As Mother did not want a service or memorial she will be cremated and one day next month, when the Sierra wildflowers are in bloom, her small family here will take her remains to the mountains and scatter in the wind amongst the flowering blooms her ashes.  We will share an intimate champagne toast to celebrate her life and gifts to us and all who knew her and experienced her touch of joy, giving, and love.  She will be greatly missed.

Thank you for being her friends.
