Calvin Lawrence Koenig - Class Of 1948

Born June 18, 1930 in California, Calvin 'Cal' Koenig was the son of Lawrence and Georgia (Donley) Koenig.  He grew up in San Marino and graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1948.

He began working at Montgomery Ward's where he learned to sell kitchen appliances.  Later, Cal opened the very successful Koenig Camera Shop on Shopper's Lane in Covina. The shop remained open for about 45 years, closing due to competition with the introduction of the digital camera.

Cal and his family lived in Covina but also had a home on Catalina Island where they frequently had visitors of family, friends, and employees. Cal was very generous with his time and talents. He was active in the Rotary Club and enjoyed fellowship with local business owners. He was also active in local politics and was good friends with Peter Scharbarum, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Cal was the best employer. He loved his camera shop and was very dedicated to its success. He was a hard worker, a good listener, honest and fair, charitable, kind and very approachable. Both employees and customers missed him very much when he retired. Upon retiring, he moved with his wife to Coronado, California.  Cal passed away November 17, 1999.
