James L "Jim" Dixon - Class Of 1954

James L Jim Dixon

Jim Dixon  '54 passed away December 4, 2007.

Jim attended South Pasadena-San Marino High School and Occidental College and graduated from USC in 1958 from the school of business.  After some sales experience he got into construction and eventually went into a business called Panamint Construction with Dick Eddy; doing some new construction and lots of condo conversions.  Later they were merged and became Regis Homes.  In 1979 he went out on his own taking back the Panamint name and doing tenant improvement type work mainly until he retired in 2002 at about which time his illness began.  It wasn't until this year that it was diagnosed as progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare and debilitating neurological illness.  He was always very fit and loved running and biking, camping, hiking, and gardening.  As these things were taken away from him he seemed to accept his fate pretty well; however, on December 4th he took his own life.

He had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Mike, Julie, and his grandkids visiting and dinner with the extended family at his sister Diane's home.  A life long USC football fan he had enjoyed the last day of college football watching all the games and of course, reveling in USC's win over UCLA.

However, his disease was progressing rapidly and he had read and knew exactly what to expect at each stage.  I think he was not willing to go there and I know he thought he was sparing me and the family the care taking duties and stresses of his illness.
