Ruth Carpenter (Picton) - Class Of 1940

Ruth Carpenter (Picton)

Ruth Carpenter Picton was born October 10, 1922 in Pasadena, California, and passed away on December 2, 2010.

Ruth attended South Pasadena High School in her junior and senior years and was active in all sports.  After graduation in 1940, she attended Sawyer Business School for one year and then attended Pasadena Junior College, graduating in 1943 as a business major with an art minor.  She worked at Security First National Bank in Pasadena for several years.  Ruth married Arthur Hall in 1944 and they had one son.  Art passed away in 1953 from polio.  Two years later she met and married Douglas McClure, an architect/builder and they moved to Fallbrook, California.  This marriage produced one daughter and three sons.  They stayed busy designing and building houses throughout the Fallbrook area.  Always active in her church, she taught Sabbath School and played piano for the children's choir.  They also enjoyed family camping trips in the Northern California and Oregon forests.  Doug passed away in 1995 after a prolonged illness.

Ruth had been friends with David (SPHS '41) and his wife Shirley Picton since Pasadena Junior College days.  Shirley passed away in 1995.  After some letters and visits, Ruth and David decided to marry.  Together they enjoyed several cruises and trips before she became ill and was unable to travel.

Ruth is survived by her husband David, her sister Sylvia, five children, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two stepsons.
