Hollis Harry Hills - Class Of 1933

Hollis Harry Hills

Hollis Hills

March 25, 1915 - October 31, 2009

Hollis Hills initially served with the RCAF in the early days of World War II, shooting down one enemy airplane. Subsequently as a US Naval Aviator, he shot down four more enemy airplanes in aerial combat to become a World War II Navy ACE. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as a Pilot and Division Leader of Fighter Planes embarked in USS Langley (CV-27), over Truk, on April 29, 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.

I just read in an aviation magazine that Hollis flew among the first P-51 A "Apache's"  (later called Mustangs) into combat in 1942 for the Royal Air Force. Hill has the unique and exeptional distinction of being the first pilot to shoot down an enemy aircraft in a P-51, a Focke Wulf 190 near Dieppe France in June 1942.
