Mary Linendoll (Gerke)

Longtime Arcadia resident Mary Linendoll Gerke was born in Detroit, raised in Denver before moving to South Pasadena, graduated South Pasadena-San Marino High School 1942. Took a summer job as a 'computer' at Consolidated Engineering in Pasadena, aiding research and development of the first mass spectrometer. Graduated from University of Colorado, Boulder, Delta Delta Delta sorority, Pi Mu Epsilon. San Marino and Pasadena community volunteer, active member of Pasadena Art Alliance for 61 years.

After divorcing she earned a teaching degree and taught science for 25 years at Arroyo High School, El Monte. She loved to travel, with trips to China, South America, Uzbekistan, and the Arctic Circle by freighter and many more. Other passions included contemporary art, geology, astronomy, the metric system, painting, calligraphy, and needlepoint. She never lost her curiosity and sense of wonder, openness to new ideas, zest for new adventures and sharing her passions with others. Always happiest with a paintbrush in her hand, rocks in her pocket, and an eye searching the night sky. Mary left a legacy of memories to all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her five children, Marcy Fowler, Chick Gerke (Robin Strauss), Nancy (David) Robbins, Pam Gerke, and Carl (Joyce) Gerke; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
