Gertrude Jane Sampson (Flack) - Class Of 1936

Gertrude Jane Sampson (Flack)

Jane Flack went Home with Jesus on July 7, 2013; just in time for her beloved husband Ed's birthday celebration in Heaven. Gertrude 'Jane' Flack was born May 10, 1918 to Homer and Bertha Sampson in Pasadena, California. She grew up in South Pasadena with her younger brother, Jim; graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1936 and worked in a millinery shop in downtown Los Angeles. Persuaded by her cousin, Jane went on a 'blind date' date to meet her future husband, Edwin Flack (SPHS '31). It was 'love at first sight' and a few months later they married in November 1939.

Jane and Ed lived in South Pasadena where they raised their two daughters, Catherine and Barbara. Upon retirement in 1972, they moved to Lynden, Washington. Jane and Ed were members of the former Glendale Mennonite Church, The Lynden Community Church and also enjoyed being docents of the Lynden Pioneer Museum. They were married over 57 years when Ed passed away suddenly in 1997.

Jane especially loved gardening and painting. Her beautiful watercolor florals and acrylic scenes grace many of our walls. She was an excellent cook, caregiver, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Jane will be dearly missed by her daughters, Catherine (SPHS '59) and husband Mike McMillen (SPHS '58), Barbara (SPHS '62) and husband Paul Bloomquist (SPHS '60); nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and many other special relatives and friends.
