Haruko Shimamoto (Izumi)

Haruko Shimamoto Izumi, 97, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded with love and her family on March 11, 2012. She was the cornerstone of the family and her loving presence will be missed every day of their lives. Her constant reminder of her love of family and being a lady of grace will always be honored and cherished.

Haruko was blessed with having a best friend, daughter Linda (Chet) Marek, along with her granddaughters, Marisa and Midori, and grandson, Michael that cared for her daily needs. Her loving son, Mark (Lori) Izumi, along with grandsons Zachary and Alex, and granddaughter, Megan, loved their grandmother so very much. She taught them to have kindness in their hearts and to live life to the fullest. She is also survived by a younger sister, Midori Shimamoto of New York City.

Haruko was born in Pasadena, California on November 23, 1914. She was a survivor of the Depression and the internment camp, Heart Mountain in Wyoming, during World War II. She was very active into her 90s with her love of dancing and gardening. We will celebrate her life in Des Moines, Iowa, where she lived the majority of her life.
