David B Halpin, Attorney at Law, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away March 6, 2015. He was 63 years old. A true renaissance man, Dave lived and worked wholeheartedly for the Catholic faith, his family.

He is most lovingly remembered by his wife, Natalie, his children, David, Eugene, Rose, Margaret, Elizabeth, Gertrude, Thomas, James, and Seth; his grandson Alexander, and son-in-law Chadi Tannoury. Also surviving are his mother, Margaret Halpin, and siblings Philip (SPHS '68), Patrick (SPHS '71), Timothy (SPHS 72), Margaret (SPHS '74), Mary Ann (SPHS '76), Peter (SPHS '78), Kathleen (SPHS '78), John (SPHS '81), their spouses and children. He is proceeded in death by his father, Eugene Philip Halpin.

Born to Margaret and Gene Halpin on October 21, 1951, in Seattle, Washington, Dave grew up in South Pasadena, California. His childhood recollections were of another time, parochial grammar school with the nuns, playing the drums in his rock 'n roll band, working his father's catering truck in downtown Los Angeles, and surfing the Pacific Ocean waves before it was cool. After graduating from South Pasadena High in 1969, Dave enlisted in the United States Coast Guard; it was there he learned the art of discipline. He was honorably discharged in 1974. In the fall of 1975 he began his studies at Thomas Aquinas College in Southern California, learning the art and science of logic, graduating in 1979. There he was ordained to meet his life partner and wife, Natalie St. Arnault.

Dave graduated from Notre Dame Law School in 1983. Subsequently he became licensed to practice law in: Indiana, Colorado, New Mexico, and Illinois. He was also licensed in Native Tribal Law for the Navajo Nation, White Mountain Apache, and Zuni Pueblo.

Dave and Natalie moved to Chesterton in 1991 where they raised their nine children. Dave led the family by example with disciplined hard work and quiet acts of love. He was a great storyteller and fantastic impersonator; he had a knack for making the whole room to burst into laughter with his original sense of humor. He was an avid reader, a swimming and bicycle enthusiast, and he enjoyed sweating in his yard. Dave was a member of St. Patrick Parish, its Men of St. Joseph, and the Knights of Columbus. His life is remembered by family and friends with love and laughter.
