Chrystine Cederquist (Carter) - Class Of 1944

Chrystine Cederquist (Carter)

Born to Ben and Chrystine Cederquist June 21, 1916 in San Marino, Chrystine Regina Cederquist Carter was the oldest of their three daughters. Survived by one sister, Benjalyn Cederquist Spires (SPHS '47) and predeceased by Elizabeth Cederquist Morsey (SPHS '45), Chrystine died on September 25, 2017.

Chrystine left Pasadena City College and turned down a nursing scholarship to marry Cayler Lee Carter. They wed in 1945 and remained married until Carter's death in 2016. Both California natives, they lived in Hawthorne, Van Nuys, and the last 57 years in Simi Valley, California.

Chris worked for Litton Industries for 25 years. Starting on the assembly line, she worked her way to the position of Research and Development Engineer. In 1976, at the age of 50, Chris received her Bachelor's degree at California State University, Northridge. This degree allowed her the recognition and pay status of Engineer, a role she had been performing for years prior. She retired in 1988. A devout Christian, she faithfully attended and served her churches:  Van Nuys Baptist, Simi Valley Baptist, and the Church of Rocky Peak. Throughout her life she supported with her time and money, various children's and women's outreach ministries.

In retirement, Chris enjoyed various activities:  church, gardening (preserving the produce of her gardens), reading, sewing as a skilled seamstress, and regularly traveling the states to dote upon her grandchildren. Being very artistic, she loved tole, oil, and watercolor painting. Holidays were her favorite with family and friends, especially Christmas and Easter. She also loved international travel, studying lace making and tatting in Belgium. She and Cayler were part of the original docent volunteers for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Chris clocked more than 2,500 hours of service.

Chris is survived by four children:  Cayler (Diane) Carter, Jr, Claudia (Rick Bessette) Olson, Cynthia (Ken) Young, and Candace (Bob) Madsen; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
