Betty Jeane Bloom (Hare) - Class Of 1932

Betty J. Hare of Mount San Antonio Gardens in Claremont, Calif., formerly of New Canaan, died Sunday, August 1, at the age of 89.

 

Mrs. Hare was the registrar at the Silvermine Guild School of Art during the 1950s when she lived in New Canaan.

 

She was born in Winona, Minn., and lived in Iowa and Illinois before moving with her family to California in 1931. After graduation from South Pasadena High School in 1932 and from Scripps College in 1936, she married Donald G. C. Hare and lived in Houston, Texas, and then New Canaan.

 

After her divorce from Mr. Hare, she was registrar at Silvermine until returning to California in 1964. She then worked as registrar at Scripps College in Claremont until she retired in 1980.

 

Her affiliations over the years included the American Association of University Women and the National and Pacific Coast Registrars Associations and she served on the boards of the Professional Women for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Faculty House of the Claremont Colleges, the Campus Women of Claremont Colleges, the Scripps Fine Arts Foundation and the Rembrandt Club of Pomona College.

 

Mrs. Hare is survived by a son, Stephen G. C. Hare of Newcastle, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Hare Lowe of Lakewood, Colo.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were private. Arrangements were made through the Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 North Garey Avenue, Pomona, Calif.
