Alice S Graydon (Woolaway) - Class Of 1926

Alice Graydon Woolaway

July 6, 1908 - January 20, 1999

Alice passed away in her Kahala home. Her son, Kim, grandsons, James, Michael, Scott; a great-granddaughter, Elle, and nieces and nephews survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Woolaway and son, Graydon Marshall Woolaway.

Alice was born in Chicago and came to Hawaii as a young woman while attending law school at UCLA. She met and fell in love with James T Woolaway and they were married in Honolulu on November 14, 1931.

Alice was an active member of the community as she served on numerous boards and commissions. Her community service work included efforts to improve health care and the environment. She served as director of We the Women, precinct delegate for the Republican Party, director of the Junior League, and the Outdoor Circle, to name a few.

Alice Woolaway was a woman of vision and commitment who stood up to oppose high rise development on the slopes of Diamond Head. As the Legislative Committee Chair of the Outdoor Circle, Alice was a key leader in the formation of a statewide citizen's coalition that led successfully to the preservation and protection of the natural beauty of Hawaii's historic landmark, Diamond Head

Her graciousness and commitment to her family, friends, and her community will be missed. Alice has throughout her life provided a strong role model for all that have been blessed with knowing her.
