Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of All Saints' Espiscopal Church in Pasadena for John Dean Stallsmith, 23, son of Mr and Mrs Welton Stallsmith of Pasadena.

Stallsmith, a graduate of South Pasadena High School and an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 32 of the Neighorhood Church was an employee of G Rath Investment Brokers of Los Angeles. He was a cadet on the liner President Pierce when it rescued 270 refugees from the Sino-Japanese war zone near Shanghai in 1937.

He also leaves a sister, Polly, and his grandmother, Mrs Thomas Stallsmith of Los Angeles.
