Elizabeth 'Liz' MacLennan (Chase)

Elizabeth MacLennan Chase of Hillsborough, California, died February 22, 2008 at the age of 86 after a long illness. Third of four daughters of Reverend Duncan George and Grace MacLennan, born July 2, 1921 in Lamar, Colorado. Liz grew up in south Pasadena and graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa in 1943 with a BA in Psychology. While attending Drake she was President of her Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta and placed first in the Iowa State Badminton Championship. She married Robert L. Chase in 1944 during World War II. Following his Naval duty his career with Otis Elevator took the family to Omaha, Denver, Buenos Aires, New York, Paris, Tokyo and San Francisco. At every stop new friendships were established and old friends came to visit. Active in her church and charitable causes, Liz was a contributor to the American Church in Paris, the Tokyo American Club Print Show, the March of Dimes, Hillsborough Auxiliary to Community Gatepath, Hillsborough Garden Crafters, San Mateo County Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Alpha Theta Stanford Advisory Board and San Mateo Panhellenic. Her compassionate and generous spirit seasoned with her quick wit and contagious humor, will be remembered by her large circle of friends and family.

Preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Chase in 1985, she is survived by her son Robert L. Chase Jr., Hillsborough; daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law Ross Johnston, Livermore, California; granddaughter, Lisa Marie Johnston, Discovery Bay, California; grandson, Robert Johnston, Tempe, Arizona; sisters Anna Wray (SPHS '35), Pasadena, and Janet Perry, Seattle, Washington, many cousins, a niece, three nephews, and cherished friends around the world.
