Alan H Dale Jr

Alan H. Dale, a 1950 graduate of the University of Redlands who served on the university's Board of Trustees, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at his home in Redlands, following an illness. He was 78.

 He was born October 11, 1927, in Los Angeles and graduated from South Pasadena High School.  Before attending the University of Redlands, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard toward the end of World War II.

 He lived in San Bernardino from 1962 to 1995 and in Lake Arrowhead from 1995 until 2004, when he moved to Redlands.  For 30 years he and his wife owned and operated Alan Dale's Baby News children's stores in San Bernardino and Riverside. Before that, he worked for Sears for 10 years.

 He was active in a number of community organizations in San Bernardino, including serving as president of the Kiwanis Club and the Downtown YMCA. He also helped organize and served as president of the Highland Avenue Merchants Association.  After retiring, he served on the San Bernardino County grand jury and the University of Redlands Board of Trustees.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn Dale; a son, Roger Dale of Yorba Linda; a daughter, Stacy Brunell of Temecula; and four grandsons.
