Fred Moore - Class Of 1947

Fred Moore

Longtime Claremont resident W 'Fred' Moore (age 76) died December 17, 2005 after a nearly two year battle with leukemia. Fred Moore was born February 23, 1929 in San Mateo, California and was raised in San Marino in the home built by his parents Walter and Elizabeth Moore. In his early years, Fred spent hours helping his father with his rose gardens and sailing in Newport.

Fred attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado for one year before transferring to Claremont Men's College. After graduating from CMC, Fred served for two years in the United States Army in Ft Lee, Virginia. In 1955, he began a long career at the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. The L-1011 projects brought him on numerous trips around the world, including long stints in Japan, England, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. After a brief time working for the Claremont Colleges in the 1960s, Fred returned to Lockheed in Burbank and Ontario and worked for another 25 years.

With son Tom, Fred won multiple contests in the International Plastic Modelers Society in Orange County, building model airplanes. As an active father and scoutmaster, Fred volunteered for many years with the Scouts in the Old Baldy Council. After retiring, he enjoyed being a volunteer for the Planes of Fame Museum at the Chino Airport as well as for the Pomona Valley Hospital. His other hobbies included photography, building furniture and cabinets, and studying World War II aircraft. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Claremont. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends.

Fred is survived by his wife Bobbie; sons Tom (Krista) of Kenner, Louisiana, and Jim (Yelena) of San Marcos; three stepchildren; as well as 11 grandchildren. He was always very grateful for having so many close friends and family.
