Thomas G. Cherniss, 68, of San Diego, died Saturday, September 9, 2000.  He was born in Culver City.  Mr. Cherniss was retired after working as a sales representative of Arco and served in the Navy during the Korean War.  He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Tierrasanta Post and the Tierrasanta San Diego Kiwanis Club and was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife, Claudette Cherniss; daughter Katherine of Mesa, Arizona; sons Christopher of Fontana, Anthony of Temecula, Michael of Murrieta, and Karl of Longmont, Colorado; brothers Sidney of South Pasadena, and Charles of Pasadena; and seven grandchildren.
