Ruth McDonald (Edmundson)

Ruth Edmundson, 90, of Sedona, Arizona and formerly of Estes Park, Colorado and San Gabriel, California, died at home on May 26, 2011, three weeks after she sustained a head injury due to a fall.  Her parents were Harrison G. McDonald and Marguerite Seymour (McDonald).  She spent most of her life near her childhood home in Pasadena, CA.  She attended Occidental College where she majored in music and then transferred to the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she graduated in 1942.  She was a Montessori nursery school teacher before meeting her husband.  She married James Edmundson in 1946 and had three children.

Ruth was an active member for over 40 years in PEO, first in Chapter EP in California and then Chapter IU in Colorado.  She was a gifted gardener and always had a beautiful garden wherever she lived.  She loved animals and lost her devoted dog Abby a year prior to her death.  She enjoyed playing cards and mahjongg, attending fitness classes, and socializing with her friends.  She lived independently up until the time of her death.

She is survived by her children:  Bruce Edmundson and his wife Carol of Mountain View, CA; Brian Edmundson and his wife Sylvia of Big Bear Lake, CA; and Patricia Kayne and her husband Ronald of Estes Park, Colorado and Sedona, Arizona; three grandchildren, Jejelle, Chad, and Devin; a sister-in-law Dorothea McDonald of Chico, CA, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim who died in 2010; her brother Harrison "Bud", who died in World War II, her brother John (SPHS '34) and her brother James (SPHS '43).
