June Sato (Komoto) - Class Of 1942

June Sato (Komoto)

June Sato Komoto, a longtime South Pasadena resident, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2009, from natural causes.

Born in Oceanside, California on February 28, 1924, Komoto grew up in South Pasadena except for time spent in Gila River Relocation Camp from 1942-1945.  She graduated as a registered nurse from St. Mary's Nursing School in Rochester, Minnesota, then worked in the Japanese American Community Hospital until her marriage to Yoshito Alan Komoto in 1954.  June worked 16 years as a nurse at Huntington Hospital until her retirement in 1989.

Family members remember her sharp wit, thoughtful kindness, warm generosity to those in need, love for animals, a keen mind, her political and social awareness, and dedication to helping others.  Her husband passed away in 1994.

June is survived by her two sons, Robert and Roy, grandson Alan, two brothers, William Sato and George Sato, two sisters-in-law, Irene and Marjorie, and many nieces and nephews.
