In Memory

Michael Scott - Class Of 1950

Mike passed away at age 79 on July 24, 2012. Though born in New York on October 28, 1932, Mike was raised in South Pasadena.  Graduating from South Pasadena High School in 1950, he invested a couple of years at a junior college in Pasadena and then moved on to UCLA from which he would graduate in 1956.  Mike would forever remain a diehard Bruins supporter through thick or thin.

As a banker, Mike gave 20 years of his life to American Express, with 12 of these years in Germany and eight in New York. He spent another ten years with the Security Pacific Bank in Los Angeles.  While at Amex, Mike made his mark as the creator of the Gold Card, a concept and image that prevails to this day.

Though Mike was a prolific online writer, he liked to spend time either at the beach or in his garden at his home in Glendora.  Above all, Mike was a dedicated husband and father.  When he passed away, he was with Irene, his wife and friend of over 54 years. He leaves behind his four sons: Peter, Thomas, Steven, and Michael, and their families with four amazing grandchildren. Mike also leaves two brothers, Peter Scott (SPHS '51) and James Mercer (SPHS '53).  Mike will be dearly missed and always remembered.
