Esther Mae Slater (Rumohr)

Esther Mae Rumohr was born in Bakersfield, California February 24, 1921. Her parents were Harry and Fanny Hansen Slater and she is the youngest of three sisters, Pearl, Ruth, and Esther Mae. She attended school in Bakersfield before the family moved to South Pasadena.

Esther Mae went to South Pasadena High School, where she met her husband, Robert (Bob) Rumohr '35. She attended Occidental College before going to the University of Redlands. She was a member of Sigma Pi sorority. When she graduated from the University of Redlands, she taught elementary school. Bob went on to serve in the war and after he returned, they were married in 1946.

Bob owned his own business in South Pasadena, a floor covering store. They lived in their South Pasadena residence for many years and she was the secretary at Oneonta School for over 10 years until 2005. Bob had passed away several years before, and Esther moved to the Atascadero Christian Home and thoroughly loved the area, people, and surroundings. She was an active member of the Atascadero Methodist Church, as well as PEO. She loved and visited their vacation home in West Yellowstone, Montana for over 30 years, as well as the outdoors and traveling.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathie (George) Besheer '69, of Paso Robles, son, Steve (Heidi) Rumohr '73, of Los Feliz; nieces, Marilyn Jacobs '57 of Australia, Elaine Jacobs Erven '58 of Pleasanton; and Elizabeth tenGrotenhuis of Massachusetts and nephew Dirk tenGrotenhuis of South Pasadena; and many caring neighbors and friends. Esther passed away on March 7, 2015 in Atascadero.
