Gary D Wheatcroft - Class Of 1950

Gary D Wheatcroft

Gary Dunham Wheatcroft passed away on March 8, 2016, in Lafayette, California of Alzheimer's disease with his beloved wife, Anne, by his side. A third generation Californian with a sharp mind, quick wit, and larger than life personality, Gary will be dearly missed.

Gary was raised in South Pasadena and attended UC Berkeley following graduation from So Pas High in 1950. At Cal he made lifetime friendships, was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and met the love of his life, Anne Stuart, whom he married in 1955. After he graduated from UC Hastings Law School in 1958, Gary and Anne returned to southern California where he was first a prosecutor in the LA District Attorney's office, followed by a lengthy career in private practice in Pasadena. In 1978, Gary developed retinal detachment which left him partially sighted. Inquisitive by nature, he mastered computer skills for the blind allowing him to practice well into his 70s. Gary was well known and respected for his uncanny ability to recall specific names and dates. He welcomed friends and family into his circle with witty storytelling and warm laughter. Always loving a good time, Gary and Anne will be remembered for hosting epic Rose Parade parties at New Year's, regretfully never for their beloved Bears. In 2013, they moved to Lafayette to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, Dell and Albert Wheatcroft; brothers and Warren (SPHS '49) and Ron Wheatcroft (SPHS '54). In addition to extended family across the state, Gary leaves behind his wife, Anne, his sister Donna (Fred) Diaz; daughters Jane (Chip) Wiser, and Monie TenBroeck; as well as three adoring grandchildren, Alison, Emily, and Charlie Wiser.
