Robert B Moran - Class Of 1972

Robert B Moran

Some people get to choose where they slip their earthly bonds and Robert Moran did, June 6, 2019, in Glendora, California, at age 65. After a courageous battle with cancer he discontinued treatment and passed away quietly at home, which was his wish, supported by his loving wife of 32 years, Melissa, and the affection of those he cared about most in life and who were able to provide consistent comfort with their presence, children Robbie Moran (Brooke), Katherine Moran, Emily Moran, grandson Luke Moran and brother Hugh Moran (Sandy). His loss is mourned by his sisters, Winifred Jasper (Jerry) and Paulie Reed (Bill), step-sisters Donna Farrar (Dave) and Trixie Van Anglen (Erik), Melissa's parents Benita and Gary Nitchman, and their family, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Rob treasured his family and derived great joy from having them close.

Born to Madge and Hugh Moran III, December 4, 1953, Rob and his twin, Hugh '72 and his sisters, Winnie '66 and Paulie '69, were raised in South Pasadena by their loving mother. Growing up on Oaklawn Avenue was an idyllic place full of street baseball games, wonderful neighbors, and backyard adventures. Active in the community, Rob attended Calvary Presbyterian Church, was in Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball and earned letters in high school sports. Attending all South Pasadena schools, Rob graduated from SPHS in 1972 followed by college years at UOP, Cal State LA and a Master's degree in business from USC. With a gift for conversation, business and marketing, Rob spent professional years working with Union Carbide in Connecticut, as the marketing director for Armor All Products Wax Division and as Director of the Consumer Division for Meguiar's Inc. before starting his own company, RKEM.

Formerly of South Pasadena, Rob and his family lived in San Juan Capistrano, Huntington Beach and Laguna Niguel. Eleven years ago, Rob suffered a debilitating stroke that affected his mobility and speech. His family loved and nurtured him providing the best possible home environment. It did not deter him from becoming a master at the remote control and a California Angels fan extraordinaire, whether they were winning or losing. Rob loved sports, had coached his kid's teams and never missed an opportunity to watch Angel baseball on TV. A close second was viewing programs on history, particularly World War II.

Following a Celebration of Life gathering in Glendora honoring Rob, part II was for his family and friends to tail gate together and attend an Angels game on July 29th. It was a fitting way to pay tribute to one of Rob's favorite passions. Husband, father, brother, loving son, and friend, Rob is sorely missed.

Rob was a good friend to me from the time we were at El Centro through High School.  He and Hugh would always walk home from El Centro with me.  I recall trying to keep up with their long strides.  Rob was a very good baseball pitcher and also enjoyed basketball.   He was friendly and kind to all.

I miss him and his good spirit.
