Frances McNeel (Watson)

Frances McNeel Watson

November 19, 1938 - May 23, 2024

Our beautiful mother, Frances Gwynn McNeel Watson, has gone to heaven, where she joins her parents (Alexander and Irene Lydon McNeel), her two sisters, Roberta Dassat and Phyllis Fister, her husband, William Watson, and her twin sons, William and Walter Watson. She was 85. She is survived by her two daughters, Kitty Watson and Christina Watson, and one grandson.

Frances was born in North Platte, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm there and moved to California, where she attended her senior year of high school at South Pasadena High School. She was employed at the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Los Angeles field office, where she met our dad and then devoted her life to being a wife and mother. They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Frankfort and Lexington, Kentucky, before moving to Middlesboro, Kentucky.

She enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, reading our dad's poetry, taking care of numerous dogs and cats, and collecting seashells. In her later years, she filled her days with feeding the wildlife that came through our woods. She loved taking care of living creatures. She spoke to them as if they were visiting friends and neighbors and never let them go hungry. However, she was known to shoo off the occasional bear. She believed strongly in the afterlife and the Divine. She was fond of saying prayers for people who needed them.
