Lawrence Daedler - Class Of 1953

Lawrence Daedler

Lawrence (Larry) Daedler passed away on March 22, 2016 as a result of complications related to lung cancer. Larry was born in Freeport, Illinois in 1935. He and his family later moved to California where he graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1953.

He joined the Navy that same year, serving four years of active duty and four additional years on reserve. He began his career as a fireman in 1964, working briefly with the Pasadena City Fire Department before transferring to the Los Angeles County Fire Department where he served for 32 years, rising to the rank of Captain. During this time he married Beverly Peters, his lifelong friend and they settled in Arcadia. Larry was active in Arcadia National Little League, acting as both a coach and a board member. In addition, he was forever involved in household projects, remodeling various areas of the house, tackling both small and large projects with equal enthusiasm.

His interests included coin collecting, genealogy, and fine woodworking, among others. He also took a keen interest in issues related to politics and public safety. Above all else his passion was his family. He was always interested in their activities and wherever possible he would seek to attend their events or offer advice or encouragement as needed.

Larry is survived by his sister Nancy (SPHS '62), wife Beverly, his son Jeff (Natalie) Daedler, and grandchildren Andrew, Jared, Emilie, and Ryan, as well as daughter Shauna (Frank) Poong.
