It is with great sadness that the family of longtime Pasadena area attorney, Michael Montgomery, announced his passing on November 28, 2018 from natural causes at the age of 82 in Pasadena. He was surrounded by his loving children.

Michael was born in Santa Barbara on September 12, 1936 and was a graduate of South Pasadena High School, UCLA, and USC Law School. He honorably served in the US Army from 1954 - 1958. He is survived by his children, Michael P Montgomery, Megan Montgomery Williams, Sarah, Lauren, and Alex Montgomery, as well as his grandchildren, Mason and Charlotte Williams, and his sister Margaret Tompkins. He was predeceased by his son Patrick Montgomery.

Michael was the former Mayor of South Pasadena and the State Chairman of the California Republican Party. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Alumni Association and the Fair Political Practices Commission. In 1984 President Ronald Reagan appointed him as the Commissioner of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna. President George Bush reappointed Michael where he served until 1994. Other affiliations include his longstanding memberships to the Jonathan Club and USC Alumni Association.

Loved by so many and known for his generosity, charisma, and sense of humor, Michael Montgomery will be sadly missed and forever remembered.

Michael Montgomery served as Mayor of the City of South Pasadena; US Representative, International Committee for the Conservation of the Atlantic Tunas, Madrid, 1985-1994; Member, Pacific Fishery Management Council, 1991-1994; Commissioner, Fair Political Practices Commission, State of California, 1985-1989. He began his legal career as an attorney in the California Division of Highways Legal Department and has acted as Redevelopment Agency Counsel, City Attorney, and Special Counsel for numerous public agencies for over 25 years. Additionally, has acted as Special Counsel for numerous municipal bond issues in excess of $1, 500,000,000 total. He handled over 1,000 eminent domain parcels, represented over 200 properties in toxic valuation-litigation suits and has tried many zoning and land-use cases.
