Lindsay Scott MacDonnell - Class Of 1955

Lindsay Scott MacDonnell

Lindsay MacDonnell - July 15, 1936 to June 1, 2013. Many of us were saddened to learn recently of Lindsay MacDonnell's death in a retirement facility in Washington state on June 1, 2013. He had been there since 2009.

It has been said that Lindsay grew up at the Valley Hunt Club. His grandfather was one of the earliest presidents (1915). His father was chief financial officer of Northrop during the World War II years while his mother volunteered as a nurse during that time. Lindsay graduated from Polytechnic School in the 8th grade and graduated from South Pasadena High in 1955. He later joined the Marines and spent time in Laos. Lindsay entertained many of his fellow Marines as well as his Laotian friends with adventurous rides through parts of Laos on his three-wheeled Messerschmitt convertible. Later, he lived in Central America and Mexico. In addition, he traveled to Africa, Europe, and Asia. He was active in the Explorers' Club and was a member of the Adventurers' Club.

Lindsay was married twice; both marriages ended in divorce. He has three children from his first marriage and seven grandchildren. Lindsay returned to Pasadena after a stint in Central America and remained here until he was transported to the retirement facility in Washington. He loved animals and startled his neighbors with his collection of dogs, cats, raccoons, emus, and others. On a more serious note, Lindsay was active in the civil rights movement in Pasadena and gained many friends and acquaintances there. Lindsay will be remembered by a large, diverse circle of friends for his humor, his frankness, and his quick intelligence.
