John F Podlech

John Podlech (August 8, 1937 - July 27, 2013) a lifelong resident of South Pasadena and San Marino, passed away with his sister, brother, and brother-in-law at his side.

John attended Oneonta Elementary School, South Pasadena Junior High and South Pasadena High School, Class of 1955, as well as Pasadena City College. While at SPHS, John was introduced to the printing business when he was working on the production of the SPHS The Tiger newspaper. He went on to study lithography and related subjects at PCC and subsequently made a career in the field of producing special edition catalogs, books, and brochures. Later in life he would return to PCC to learn about the new, digital technologies that were transforming the printing industry. He began his career in Pasadena and ended it after a 30-year stint at a company in Irvine.

He was a loving person who never married. He is survived by his sister, Diane Podlech Turriff (SPHS '59), his brother Robert (SPHS '64), two cousins, Anne and Jim Podlech; two nieces, and 10 grand-nieces and nephews. His passing is also heavily mourned by his lifelong extended family and friends of the Perrault family of South Pasadena, especially Donna, her daughter Monty and young Cole and Nikki. Long suffering from cancer was eased at the end and he passed away gently at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. He was interred alongside his parents at Mountain View Mausoleum with a portion of his ashes spread over Maui, a place that he loved.
