Michael Reeves - Class Of 1977

Michael Reeves

Michael B. Reeves  '77

December 1, 1959 - November 1, 2000

Michael attended Colorado College after graduating from South Pasadena High School in 1977.  After graduating with honors with a degree in English Literature, he took time to do what he loved most - ski.  He taught skiing in Colorado for two years before returning to Los Angeles to join a prestigious private client group at Merrill Lynch where Michael's keen knowledge of the market was admired and well sought after.

He married Alexandra Samartin (a 1979 South Pasadena High School graduate) in 1996.  They had the opportunity to travel, live in Manhattan Beach, play volleyball daily, and later built their dream home atop the arroyo canyon of Pasadena.

Michael was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in 2000 and passed away a month later.

He is missed terribly by all who had the honor of knowing him and remembered with love and gratitude for all the love he offered his wife, his family, and his friends.  We can never forget the 6'4 1/2" tall, kind, and gentle man who never spared a smile, who appeared quiet until he spoke revealing a sharp intelligence and whose absolutely infectious chuckle still echoes in our ears and always in our hearts.

Mike was a good friend in junior hs and hs.  He was a kind and thoughtful person who was always upbeat & yes, loved skiing.  I remember seeing Mike at a past reunion, doing great, I guess he died a few years later.  Super person, super sad he died so young.

I knew Michael from Marengo through junior high prior to moving in 1973. His family lived in a newer house on the Spruce St. cul-de-sac, east of Milan. I was impressed by how close their swimming pool was to their back door, and also the carpet that generated a mighty static charge only to be discharged later in a crackling surprise. But I can attest to the comment regarding Michael's laugh (much more than a chuckle!) and that he was very smart. Condolences to his family and loved ones; it's so sad to see someone go so soon.
