David Davenport Lewis - Class Of 1948

David Davenport Lewis, 83, passed away on February 23, 2013. He was born February 8, 1930 in Glendale, California and grew up in South Pasadena where he attended elementary school and high school  He attended the University of the Pacific and the Fuller Seminary; then graduated from Simpson Bible College with a B.A. in theology in 1958.  He earned his Masters degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in 1985.

Dave was an Eagle Scout and quite active in church youth fellowships.  He taught a few years in the public schools; then taught six years at Valley Christian High School in Los Gatos.  He moved to San Francisco and taught physical education and science at West Portal Lutheran Church School.  In the meantime, he was very active in his church and became Chairman of the San Francisco Child Evangelism Fellowship going on to become Chairman of the San Francisco C.E.F. Board, and the Director of the Good News Camp.  Until his death, he continued teaching and served on the C.E.F. Committee.  He was the pastor of Balboa Baptist Church in San Francisco for 18 years before moving to Modesto, where for the last three years he attended Shelter Cove Community Church and assisted in various ministries.

He married Doris Mae Johnson in 1977 and together they spent over 30 years.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2008, and his parents Wilfred and Marjorie Lewis as well as his two brothers, Bill (SPHS '46) and Bob (SPHS '51).
