Phyllis Lindell (Miller)

Phyllis Lindell Miller, 80, of Arcadia, California, passed away quietly at Huntington Memorial Hospital on January 22, 2009.  Phyllis was born on November 14, 1928 to parents George and Bess Lindell of South Pasadena.  She graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1946 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Whittier College in 1950.

Phyllis worked for United Airlines as a flight attendant and later as a supervisor, and was posted in several different cities, including Buffalo, New York and Boston, Massachusetts.  She flew on several of the early trans-Pacific flights to Hawaii.  Phyllis retired from United in 1956 and married Hugo Miller, Jr. of Tiburon, CA.  The Miller family moved to Arcadia in 1963 and resided there for 45 years.  During that time, Phyllis became an English and History teacher at South Pasadena Junior High School.  She obtained Masters degrees in English and Education and became an Assistant Vice Principal at South Pasadena High School.

Phyllis retired from teaching in 1992 and spent several years traveling to Europe with Hugo, and her sister Lois Tremblay.  She enjoyed weekly matches with her tennis group, and her weekly bridge group.  Phyllis moved from her Arcadia home in November 2008 and resided at Regency Parks Fair Oaks in Pasadena, along with her sister.

Phyllis is predeceased by her husband Hugo and grandson James Blakey.  She is survived by her sister Lois Tremblay; children Mark Miller (Cathy), Lori Blakey, and Todd Miller (Yvonne), grandchildren Clifford Miller (Angie), Kristin Blakey, and Danielle Tackoor, and great-granddaughter, Lilli Miller.
