Her father passed away when she was young leaving her mother and older sister Diane to care for her. As a child Karen enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting her grandparent's cabin in Idyllwild, California, as well as spending time with friends and visiting the California beaches.
Karen worked as a social worker before joining Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego as an Executive Secretary, until retiring early. She also lived with, and cared for her mother until her mother passed in 2002. In her later years Karen moved to Utah to be near her grandchildren. Her son Shawn Malone lived with his mother in Utah until passing in 2018. Karen's sister, Diane passed away in 2021. In Karen's last few years she stayed in contact with the friends and family that were dear to her and she always brought joy to their day. She lived a quiet peaceful life in her condo located in North Logan, Utah, where she cared for the local wildlife. Bird watching was a lifetime hobby and she collected a variety of bird decor in her home.
