Phillip Dube

March 26, 1957 - December 26, 2025

Phil Dube, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was the only son born to Herbert and Crystal Dube of South Pasadena. His arrival was joyfully welcomed by his two sisters, Annette Dube Marchain '65 and Pamela Dube Strand '71.

Phil enjoyed a rich and active childhood surrounded by many friends. He graduated from South Pasadena High School as a member of the SPHS Class of 1975, where he ran on the JV Cross Country team and expressed his musical talents as a drummer in the Tiger Jazz Band and Marching Band, performing in all SPHS musical productions. While attending SPHS and Pasadena City College, Phil marched in the Rose Parade for five consecutive years as a member of the Tournament of Roses Marching Band.

Phil pursued architectural design at Arizona State University before earning his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1985 from the renowned Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Santa Monica. He began his professional career as part of the design team at Pearce Structures and was a member of the group that designed and supervised construction of the groundbreaking Biosphere 2 project in Oracle, Arizona. He later founded his own firm, PSDesign, which he led until his passing. A gifted and thoughtful independent architect, Phil also gave generously of his time to the community, serving on the South Pasadena Design Review Board and the Planning Commission for the City of South Pasadena.

In 1985, Phil married the love of his life, Kristen Buhler '76 in Wartau, Switzerland. They made their home in South Pasadena, where they raised their two sons, Maxfield '07 and Jakob '09, who were the great pride and joy of Phil's life. In early 2025, Phil and Kristen were delighted to welcome their first granddaughter, Gabi. Family meant everything to Phil - he was a devoted uncle to nine nieces and nephews and a proud great-uncle to nine more.

Phil had a deep passion for music, art, and sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Raiders, the LA Kings, and the LA Dodgers. Ice hockey held a special place in his heart; he played for several years in an adult league and also skated with the Caltech Beavers intercollegiate team.

Phil will be remembered for his wry sense of humor, infectious laughter, and boundless creative spirit. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends.
