Deane Bottorf

USAAF 1943-46, USC music major to 1950, played clubs, piano bars solo to 1951. USAF to 1953. Married Betty (Claremont '44) in 1952. Played clubs and piano bars, mostly in San Gabriel Valley, on the road '56-58 (including 5 mos. in Las Vegas). Played 5 1/2 years at Westerner in Arcadia with studio in Music Mart. Got M.A.Music at UCLA in 1965. Moved to beach-Was elem. music superv Laguna Beach 68-88. Still gigging, playing.

Various cities in the US, mostly in the South.

Moved into 618 Hermosa St. about 1933. Dad was manager of Adohr Milk Co. in Pasadena. Family moved back to L.A. in about 1945 (while I was gone.)

I was elected vice president of the class of '43, but President Benny Reinhold went into the service in January, when we legally finished High School. Thus I assumed the mantel of power. I had a great semester; went to school about 10 am, had an hour of organ practice and an hour of piano practice, and one English class. It was tough!

Served as navigator USAAF to 1946; attended USC to B.Mus. 1950. Played piano clubs and bars to 1951. Recalled for Korean War to 1954 (married in 1952). Played piano and taught "pop" piano. Got teaching cred 1959 Calstate LA; M.A. from UCLA 1965. Elem.Music Superv Laguna Schools 1967-87. Played the piano continuously including road trips (even Vegas!), but for less and less money. Still available.
