Martha Susan Smiley (Hamlin)

Sue, as she was known by her family and friends, a long time resident of Rosalind Road, passed away June 11, 2011 at home with her husband and children at her side.

Sue was born in Los Angeles on April 27, 1927 to Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smiley.   She attended Marengo School, Huntington Middle School and graduated from South Pasadena-San Marino High School.  After enrolling at Occidental College, she graduated from the University of Oregon where she was affiliated with Kappa Alpha Theta.  After living in San Francisco she moved back to Los Angeles and met her husband Lloyd Dixon, Jr.  Sue and Lloyd moved to San Marino in 1968 where they raised their three children.  Sue's greatest joy was her family.  Her first husband died unexpectedly in 1979.  At a South Pasadena-San Marino High School reunion, Sue met Richard Hamlin.  They were married in 1990.

Sue is survived by her husband Richard, and children Lloyd and Elizabeth Dixon of Culver City, Leslie Dixon of Mill Valley, Jeff and Liz Dixon of San Marino, step-children Greg and Karen Hamlin of Arcadia, Ryan and Sarah Hamlin of South Pasadena; ten grandchildren and three siblings, Ken (SPHS '47), Doug, and Mary Jo.
