Samuel M Moore - Class Of 1947

Samuel M Moore

Sam Moore (January 18, 1929 - June 10, 2016) was an 'almost native' Californian. He arrived here at the age of 10, just before the start of World War II, to a sleepy southern California with no freeways and no smog.

He graduated from USC with a degree in marine invertebrate zoology, in time to find himself in the army for four years during the Korean War. While in Korea, he vowed that he would follow his boyhood love of architecture and drawing. Upon discharge he went back to USC to the School of Architecture on the GI Bill. After receiving his architect's license, he worked for several architectural firms and then spent the last 24 years of his career working for the LA Unified School District where he retired from the position of chief architect. After retirement he devoted his artistic activities to his preferred medium - watercolor.
