Olivia Mabeus

December 21, 1957 - October 5, 2020

Olivia Mabeus passed away in the Memory Care unit at the Carlton in Davis, California after years of living with frontotemporal dementia. Olivia, born in 1957, in Omaha, Nebraska, was the eldest child of Duane and Phelps Mabeus.

She graduated as valedictorian of South Pasadena High School in 1976, followed by graduation from nursing school at Pasadena City College in 1979. Olivia's first nursing job was at Sutter Davis Hospital while she simultaneously earned a degree in English from UC Davis.

Olivia spent many happy years in Davis sharing places with her sister Karen. With a detour of a few years in Rhode Island, Olivia moved to Rockville, Maryland and embarked on a 30-year nursing career in surgical oncology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. A lifelong Christian, Olivia taught Sunday school for 39 years consecutively. She loved her last church home, Potomac Presbyterian Church, very much. Olivia made annual visits to extended family members. Diagnosed with FTD, Olivia moved back to Davis to be near her sister.

Olivia is survived by her brother Mark (Shelah) Mabeus, her sister Karen (Randy) Ruan of Davis and her nephew Colin Ruan.
