Steve Ledder (1960)
One day, in 1956, while playing catcher in a SPJHS gym class softball game, I experienced a terrifying
moment. Tom Corso was on 2nd base - the batter hit a shot to center field. The center fielder
came up throwing as Tom was at full throttle rounding 3rd base going for home. Tom was very muscular and
bearing down on me . The throw to me was true, but rather than risk anilation, I jumped out of Tom's
way and let him score the run. As he passed me, Tom ran into the sturdy backstop and knocked it
completely over. I survived to catch another day. RIP, Tom Corso.
