Norma Jean Mehl (Harris)

Norma Mehl Harris

July 1, 1941 - May 27, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we, Norma's immediate family, are letting you know that Norma has passed away. She left us peacefully at home with her family and friends by her side. She is survived by her daughter Laura, her son Christopher, three grandchildren and two sisters, Joanna Mehl Buckle '62 and Julianne Mehl Fouts '68. She was predeceased by her sister Cynthia Mehl Grayson '67.

Norma enjoyed an amazing life, residing in Placer County for nearly 45 years. She was kind and compassionate for all, and always wanted to help - her legacy will live on through Horses for Healing Therapeutic Riding Center, which she was a founder of. Norma lived for and loved horses, and now she is riding high! Norma and Judy Gerhard founded Horses for Healing in 1997 with Norma's sister, Cynthia, who had Multiple Sclerosis. Judy and Norma were familiar with the benefits of horseback riding for people with MS, and their simple experiment turned into a life-changing and therapeutic program for many other people with MS and other disabilities.

Horses for Healing serves both children and adults with special needs including physical disabilities, cognitive and emotional challenges arising from a variety of causes. Norma poured her heart and soul into this program, and we want to keep her legacy living on. For more information, see:  Horsesforhealing.org
